Cue a nine-hour flight, organising an event, inviting the world’s biggest oil and gas companies, a race to find US suppliers, 15-hour days, making stands, writing slide decks, and staying in a hotel which was hosting an international cowboy convention.
Hard work indeed. But it resulted in my employer winning a new customer with a $38bn turnover.

I’m Susie Carter – former Head of Marketing for a global SaaS supply chain management consultancy. I’ve got 15 years’ experience in corporates, covering 11 different industries, including oil and gas, transport, construction, and utilities.
A self-confessed B2B nerd, delivering quality content is my passion. I wanted to be the best at it – more than I wanted to run a large team or join ghastly ‘senior leadership team’ meetings.
So I started my own agency and am now self-appointed ‘Queen of Content’ at What’s the Story?
For my sins, I don’t do ‘easy’ content. I’m the one who can turn jargon and waffle into clarity. Who can explain it in 100 words rather than 1,000. Who does all the critical thinking for you – saving rounds and rounds of approvals. I just get it. And I am as conscientious as they come.*
*In other news, I once represented the UK at an international korfball tournament in Bratislava – despite not knowing any of the rules. That’s me.
